A Headache in the Pelvis
David Wise, Ph.D., co-author of A Headache In The Pelvis, recently spoke at the combined sessions of the American Physical Therapists Association in New Orleans. The February 12th presentation explained the Wise-Anderson Protocol's effectiveness in treating a variety of pelvic pain syndromes.
During the course of the session, the co-author of A Headache In The Pelvis reviewed various pain syndromes that are often misdiagnosed and treated ineffectively. Pain conditions that frequently respond to the Wise-Anderson Protocol when other treatments may have failed include prostatitis, pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic floor myalgia, interstitial cystitis, urethral syndrome, and dyspareunia.
Dr. David Wise and Dr. Rodney Anderson's Approach Explained In A Headache In The Pelvis
During the course of the talk, entitled, "Meeting of Mind and Body in the Pelvic Floor in Pelvic Pain Disorders: the Merger of Psychology and Physiology that Underlies the Wise-Anderson Protocol", Dr. David Wise explained the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to treating pelvic pain with the Wise-Anderson Protocol, also commonly referred to as the Stanford Protocol. Topics included discovering and addressing trigger points, the role of myofacial restriction and hypertonicity in pelvic pain, and steps to take when treating pelvic pain in men and women.
Dr. David Wise stressed the importance of creating a cross-disciplinary treatment plan that includes behavioral, psychological and physical approaches to pain relief. He also expanded on the roles anxiety and stress play in triggering or contributing to long-term pelvic pain, bringing in examples from the bestseller, A Headache in the Pelvis.
The newest publication by Dr. David Wise is Paradoxical Relaxation, which was released this year. A Headache in the Pelvis, which he co-authored with Dr. Rodney Anderson, is now in its sixth edition.
